Dat Nguyen, a native from Vietnam, is a dance and visual artist currently based in Salt Lake City, Utah. He received his BFA degree in Dance at Sam Houston State University and is pursuing an MFA degree in Modern Dance at the University of Utah. As a choreographer, Dat employs collage as a way to tell his story that often leads to the somatic experience and understanding of his complexed identity. As a visual artist, Dat loves exploring different media/technologies and their often intangible relationship with dance. This allows him to expand his artistic landscapes and understand the dancing bodies through a multidimensional perspective. He founded MotionVivid™ in 2014 to further his research and expand his artistic practice to local communities that he is serving. In 2018, he received a residency from the Sugar Space Foundation and Salt Lake County Zoo, Arts, and Park program to stage an evening length work. His theatrical works and collaborations have been seen at multiple venues and festivals across the country, including Utah Museum of Contemporary Art (UT), Mark Morris Dance Center (NY), Versatility Dance Festival (CO), Metro Music Hall (UT), Creators Grid (UT), Bailando International Dance Festival (TX), Mudson (UT), BRINE (UT), Marriott Center for Dance (UT), Jim & Nancy Gaertner Performing Arts Center (TX), Dibden Center for the Arts (VT), and The Great Salt Lake Fringe Festival (UT).
