BlueShift Dance was founded in 2016 by Caitlin McAfee, its current artistic director. The company is named for the physics phenomenon of blue shift, which is the theoretical contracting of the universe toward its point of origin. With this in mind, we try to “draw the universe closer” by highlighting local, national, and global issues in order to unite communities.
The company specializes in cross-disciplinary, collaborative works, some of which are site specific. Since its inception, BlueShift works have been performed in the AKIMBO festival, the Inertia Concert at Towson University, the spring dance concert at Bowie State University, and the Charm City Fringe Festival. In 2018, the company produced its first full-length show entitled “Drawing the Universe.”
