Carissa Topham Fisher and Emily Rushing

Emily and Carissa have been dance pals since 2006. Emily is a choreographer, producer and freelance dancer. She holds a BA in dance from UT Austin and has collaborated with many Austin artists and companies including BLiPSWiTCH, Jennifer Sherburn and Blue Lapis Light to name a few. Emily also is a certified STOTT pilates instructor. Carissa has her Dance BFA from the University of North Texas, a pilates certification from STOTT pilates, and has been a company dancer for the Kathy Dunn Hamrick Dance company since 2010. Emily and Carissa have created several works together which have been seen at Austin Dance Festival, Dance Carousel, and most recently produced their own show SMORG in spring of 2023. Currently they co-teach a contemporary class at First Street Studio and continue to collaborate.

Carissa and Emily’s work, “One Sided Conversations” will be presented at Small Plates Austin 2024. Performers for their work will include Emily Rushing and Celeste Camfield.

Celeste and Emily are dance artists and creators in Austin. They have worked separately with a variety of choreographers and companies and are excited for their first time dancing together. Celeste is also a collaborator and dancer in Emily’s more recent dance piece – Spore, which will also be shown in Small Plates. 

Since moving back to Texas in 2019, Celeste has performed with ARCOS, BLiPSWiTCH, Anna Bauer, Alexa Capareda, Jairus Carr, and Emily Rushing. She has been creating experimental dance films since 2019, with screenings in Austin, Camden, Los Angeles, Ann Arbor, and Portland. In 2022, Celeste co-founded Preheat Fest, an Austin screendance festival that celebrates the experimental on camera.
