Marissa Aucoin – mla | Format Dance

Marissa Aucoin is a New Jersey based choreographer, performer, and educator. She holds an MFA from The College at Brockport as well as a BFA from Montclair State University. Currently, Marissa serves as an adjunct faculty member at Raritan Valley Community College and resident choreographer with ReThink Theatrical, a non-profit theatre company committed to creating accessible, professional quality theater for everyone. She is the co-founder and movement director of Idyll Shift, a contemporary dance theater company pairing classic texts with modern movement to flip the script on conventional narratives. Marissa maintains her personal practice through her work as artistic director of mla | FormatDance, an emerging modern-based dance collective creating collaborative, multi-media performance projects. With her company, she has presented, performed and produced works at various venues throughout the country including the Rochester Fringe Festival, Dixon Place, Visual Studies Workshop, Green Space, Hollins University, and GEVA Theatre Center. Additional performance credits include Wild Beast Dance (Tammy Sugden-Carrasco), Big Fish Movement (Jordan Demetrius Lloyd), Cap-Free Collective (Sara Caplan) and Mayhem Dance (Caitlin E. Mahon).
