Karen Gersch is the Choreographer and Artistic Director of Acrobrats, Inc., a physical arts theatre company founded in 1981. After earning a BFA from Pratt Institute, she studied and toured with NY Theatre Ballet for ten years. A Russian-trained acrobat, she also performed with circuses in the U.S., Canada and Europe for 25 years. She currently lives and teaches in Orange County and NYC; primarily a program she created for youth and adults entitled “The Art of Balance.”
RITZKIDZ: Art of Balance has only been working together since the middle of September, 2018. Part of the Safe Harbors RitzKidz program, they are trained and choreographed by Karen Gersch, whose show career includes ballet, stage and circus. The troupe is represented by eight teenagers (12-15) from six countries: Honduras, Colombia, Puerto Rico, Jamaica, one Irish/Italian/English and one African-American.
They will be presenting three days of shows in early December
at the Lobby of the Ritz Theater, along with a comedy-acrobatic troupe and two comic-dancers directed by Karen Gersch.
The troupes are grateful for the generosity and encouragement from Safe Harbors of the Hudson in providing the space, time and support to a creative program that would otherwise not exist.
